One Outfit Five Ways - Outfit 98 Rich Warm Shades
The devil is in the details, right? The small details often get overlooked as unimportant. It seems like every statement we make needs to be at top volume. Shouting is the only way to be heard! But shouting can also overwhelm your audience and overstate your message.
Today I want to share with you the subtle ways you can add your Classic Style Twist to your outfit. We are starting with a base Classic Outfit and making small changes to make a new statement.
I took outfit 98 (and it’s an accident that I chose #98 for both color palettes!) and all I changed out were the accessories to show you what a whisper of your Twist can do for an outfit. It still tells a story of who you are. It still communicates about how you are showing up in the world without using a megaphone.
I used the accessories linked in the Guide. I know many of the items are sold out, but it’s February, and this is the month when store shelves are empty, and they start transitioning to spring collections, so it’s normal. If you weren’t able to get your hands on the things you wanted, hopefully you can shop your closets for similar accessories!
Bold pure ladies, even though this isn’t in your color palette, I hope you read it because the lessons apply to everyone.
Here is your starter outfit. The classic crew neck camel sweater is an outfit staple if you have rich, warm coloring. It’s one of your best neutrals. The cut and style are eternal. In 20 years this sweater will still be perfect. The structured bag, the almond toe booties, and the leopard belt are all great neutral basics, but what happens if we change up the details?
For the Cute Classic I changed the booties out for a moccasin with a scalloped edge detail and little gold rivets. The round shape and smooth texture of this cognac bag are a little trendy and fun. The circles of varying sizes in both the necklace and the earrings are unexpected and a little random without being juvenile.
The statement: I’m fun and energetic, but not crazy.
To add some danger to this Edgy Classic version, we are adding stabby details. The classic shape of the top is accented with studs on the perimeter. The graduated chevrons on the necklace and the diamond shapes on the hammered earrings are all rough and contrast with the smooth texture of the sweater and jeans. The combat boots could do some serious damage in an altercation, though you’re not likely to be in one, but the boots are warning enough to stay away.
The statement: Don’t step on my toes and I won’t step on yours.
Minimal Classic women prefer the structure and simplicity of the bag and the earrings. The chain necklace has enough texture to be interesting while still being classic in design.
The statement: I’m elegant and earthy.
Soft Classic women usually only need a little softness to make the point that they aren’t as traditional and structured as the core outfit first suggests. The drape of the hobo bag, the oval earrings and the long tassel necklace soften a fairly classic, structured outfit.
The statement: I have soft edges, but I’m not a doormat.
Sporty Classic women can’t tolerate roadblocks. They are busy, and can’t babysit their outfits. They have to be functional but stylish. The wedge sneakers are stylish, but don’t require taking the paved route. Walk right on through that gravel pit, girl. The backpack holds all the essentials, and nothing extra. It’s easy to carry and out of your way. The hoops add a level of interest to your outfit without being huge or in your way. They get their substance from their width rather than length. The leather bracelet is earthy and can get wet with no problems.
The message: I’m pulled together, but not prissy.
